Call for Nominations for the Appointment of External Council members

Call for Nominations for the Appointment of External Council members at Taletso Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College in terms of Section 10(6) of the Continuing Education and Training (CET) Act, Act No. 16 of 2016 (as amended)

The Minister of Higher Education and Training (MHET) and the Council (governance authority) of Taletso TVET College invite members of:

  • The public;
  • National organisations representing TVET students, university principals, university of technology principals, principals of TVET colleges, other higher education colleges, private higher education institutions, private TVET colleges, the TVET sector, the distance education sector, educators, organised business, organised labour;
  • Provincial government, regional and local government;
  • Members of the business community;
  • Research and science councils; and
  • Relevant non-governmental organisations.

Terms of Appointment

The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial period that is in line with the term of the Council of Taletso TVET College. The said Council term is 5 (five) years that began in April 1, 2014.

Proposed Meeting Intervals

The Council meets at least four times per annum, but if circumstances demand, special meetings may be held. Meetings of various Council committees are also similarly scheduled.


Council members are remunerated per Council approved, official activities – that include meetings, workshops, etc. - at a rate that is provided in the TVET Circular 13/2015 of the Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET), as per National Treasury’s guidelines.


Individuals are to be nominated by virtue of the fact that they can give expression to:

  • Ensuring that the functions of the Council are performed according to the highest professional standards;
  • Ensuring that the Council is broadly representative of the TVET system and related interests;
  • Ensuring that the Council members have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the TVET sector;
  • Appreciating the role of technical and vocational education and training in reconstruction and development;
  • Ensuring that the Council is broadly representative of the community served by the public college in respect of race, gender and disability


Proven skills in the field/s of Human Resource Management and/or Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as set out in Section 10(6) of the CET Act, read with Section 6(1)h of the Standard College Statute Schedule (1).

Two positions are currently available on the Council of Taletso TVET College.
