MIS Manager

  • Salary Scale: R 311 784 – R 376 626 pa (Excluding Service Benefits): Salary Level 09


  • A three-year degree or equivalent qualification with Computer Science, Information Systems and Statistics as majors 
  • At least five (5) years experience in the area of Management Information Systems(MIS), two (2) of which shoukd be at supervisory level 
  • A valid Code EB (08) or higher driver’s licence 
  • Preparedness to work long hours and to travel extensively.

Competencies and Personal Attributes

  • Profeciency in the use of automated data processing systems and statistical analysis
  • Strong statistical background in a computerised database programme such as MS Acess, SQL or equivalent 
  • Sound and effective communication (verbal and written), managerial and report-writing skills 
  • Advanced problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent computer skills in the Microsft Office suite 
  • Use of problem-solving techniques to tactfully address queries and concerns 
  • Efficient and effective in meeting deadlines for provision of valid, complete and accurate information
  • Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure 
  • Self and goal-driven, result-oriented, innovative and creative 
  • A go-to individual


  • Experience in ITS will be a strong recommendation
  • Knowledge and/or experience in TVETMIS will be an added advantage

Key Performance Areas  

  • Manage and control the database – ITS – of the College 
  • Responsible for the overall implementation, management and maintenance of ITS for the College
  • Responsible for the setting up of the academic structure on the database 
  • Responsible for the setting up of lecturer work allocation and capturing of all lecturing timetables *
  • Responsible for the development and training of staff on the student application of the database
  • Preparation of training and operating manuals for staff 
  • Setting up of bursary applications on the database 
  • Ensure proper capturing of student information and the setting up of class lists 
  • Coordinate collection of information for the preparation and report on of the College Strategic, Operational, Annual Performance and Implementaion plans 
  • Set up the student administartion, finance and other related systems 
  • Set up the student system and various warehouses for registration of students, credible and reliable statistics, enrolment for examinations, financial reports for students, printing of registers, validation of statistics, calculation of FTEs and related
  • Maintain and regularly update the College TVETMIS and Administartion system software 
  • Manage statistical information of the College and develop relevant reports for submission to various authorities
  • Ensure that the College maintains a credible, reliable and appropriate TVETMIS system and the concomitant rendering of quality product and service
  • Maintain all College systems software with respect to updates, licencing and service level agreements in collaboration with the ICT unit 
  • Oversee and manage data of the institution 
  • Provide support and expertise to manage, manipulate and analyse data and report results as per internal and external (DHET, etc.) requirements
  • Acquire and extract primary and secondary data – student records, financial, examinations, assessment, enrolment and staffing information - required for the effective administartion and running of the institution 
  • Provide data analyses required for overall planning and enrolments 
  • Facilitate the calculation of class fees by using information provided by the DHET in the operational planning process 
  • Assist with compliance in the Student Financial Aid processes of NSFAS, etc 
  • Assist in the capturing of College student residence data and reports 
  • Responsible for all matters related to examination and assessment processes of the DHET 
  • Attend to all staff MIS related enquiries 
  • Assist in development, implementation and maintenance of applicable MIS policies ans procedures 
  • Liaise with the service provider on all ITS related aspects 
  • Perform any other duties assigned by your manager within reason.
