Message From The Principal

I wish to express my sincere appreciation to all our staff and students for their continuous dedication and conscientiousness. The College Council, Academic Board, Student Representative Council, Management, Staff, and Students’ continuous commitment toward the successes achieved during the First Semester of 2022 is appreciated and acknowledged. My sincere gratitude to all College Council members for their unlimited support and for extending the time for Council’s activities. “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it” – William Arthur Ward.

Indeed, I agree with Meister Eckhart when She asserts that If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, “thank you,” that would suffice.  The college is looking forward to expanding its digital footprint about our systems and our teaching methodology as a result of the pandemic. To this end, the College has implemented phase 1 of the HYFLEX project. LMS aims to improve the overall teaching and learning by implementing a learning management system. The project will see 7 (seven) earmarked venues installed with smart technology to enable HYFLEX classes. This means that the college may have some students physically in the classroom while the others will connect remotely.

Mr MZ Nkomo – College Acting Principal

The corporate office will have 1(one) smart room which will be installed in the auditorium room. The auditorium will function as a meeting room and lecturer room. Virtual meetings can be held in the room as well as training or any other type of meeting. In addition to the 7 (seven) HYFLEX (smart classroom), 3 (three) one-button rooms have been installed at each campus to allow for either online class or session recording. One button room will allow lecturers to record sessions in a controlled environment and upload them to the LMS. Furthermore, lecturers can have live classes online with students. The smart classroom together with the one-button room will put the college in a better position to continue with teaching and learning even if the current COVID 19 status takes a turn for the worst.

Apart from this, modules that are at high risk (poor performing subjects) can be recorded, uploaded, and monitored on the LMS. Students can revise lessons/recordings at any given time. We will soon commence with Phase 2 (two) of the LMS. W&R SETA has made funds available to the College to pursue this noble initiative. The importance of teamwork and lending a helping hand “A man sees a snake burning in the flames and decides to free it from the fire. The snake bites him as soon as he catches it and it causes the person excruciating pain. The person immediately throws the snake away and the snake falls back into the burning flame. At this point the person looks around and finds a metal stick He uses the stick to save the snake from the flames, another person who was watching the incident approached the person and asked him: “This snake bites you! Why are you trying to save his life?” The first man replied: “The nature of the snake is to bite, but it will not change my nature, and my nature is to help.”

Don’t change your behaviour because of someone’s bad nature. Do not lose the purity of your mind. There is no better feeling than helping others in life. It gives a great sense of accomplishment. A measure of a great man is his ability to help others. Later on in life, you will meet people who will be kind to you for no apparent reason. It is just the universe repaying you for what you have been sowing all along. Kindness is an important antidote to tough times, therefore be kind to everyone, starting with yourself. Remember, “No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world and normally he doesn’t know it” – Paulo Coelho. If a team is to reach its potential, each player must be willing to subordinate his personal goals to the good of the team. Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships. All great teams are the result of their players making decisions based on what’s best for the rest. C G Wilkins observes; Team leaders genuinely believe that they do not have all the answers – so they do not insist on providing them. They believe they cannot succeed without the combined contributions of all the other members of the team to a common end. Principles to learn from an eagle,

eagles love the storm when clouds gather, the eagle then gets excited, then uses the wind of the storm to lift itself higher. Once it finds the wind of the storm, the eagle uses the raging storm to lift itself above the clouds. This allows the eagle to glide and rest its wings. In the meantime, all the other birds hide in the branches and leaves of the tree.

Meaning – Face your challenges head knowing that these will make you emerge stronger and better than you were. We can use the storms of life to rise to greater heights. Achievers are not afraid to rise to greater heights. Achievers are not afraid of challenges, rather they relish them and use them profitably. Eagles Prepare for Training They remove the feathers and soft grass in the nest so that the young ones get uncomfortable in preparation for flying and eventually fly when it becomes unbearable to stay in the nest. Meaning – Leave your Comfort Zone, there is No Growth there.

When the Eagle Grows Old His feathers become weak and cannot take him as fast and as high as it should. This makes him weak and could make him die. So he retires to a place far away in the mountains. While there, he plucks out the weak feathers on his body and breaks its beaks and claws against the rocks until he is completely bare; a very bloody and painful process. Then he stays in this hiding place until he has grown new feathers, new beaks, and claws and then he comes out flying higher than before. Meaning – We occasionally need to shed off old habits no matter how difficult, things that burden us or add no value to our lives should be let go of.

Conclusion

A young couple moved into a new neighbourhood. The next morning while eating breakfast, the young woman saw her neighbour through the window hanging the wash outside. “That laundry is not clean”, she said. “She doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs laundry soap. Her husband looked on but remained silent. Every time the neighbour would hang laundry to dry, the young woman would make the same comments. About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband, “Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this!” The husband replied:’ I got up early this morning and cleaned our window” And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look. Let’s clean up our windows!

As a College, we need to appreciate and be alive to the dynamics occasioned by the law of equilibrium or Le Chatelier’s principle in chemistry, which states ” If a system in equilibrium is disturbed, the system will always oppose the disturbing factor” Loosely translated –  Any change in the status quo prompts an opposing reaction in the responding system. This applies to change management too. The foregoing implies that we have to navigate cautiously. Therefore, it follows that we all need to urgently internalize and embrace the wise words of Frantz Fanon, “Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfil it or betray it in relative opacity”
